Homework

Homework is given nearly every class. Most of the time, homework will be given in the form of worksheets. Homework is an opportunity for you to practice the concepts learned in class that day, and it will also give you a quick reference when you are reviewing older concepts, when you need to study for a quiz/test or when you need to use them in your assignments/projects. It is a good check for yourself to know whether you understand the concepts being taught in class, so when you copy another person's work, it is not a good measure for you to know whether you are good to go or not.

Assignments/Projects

You will be given various types of assignments & projects throughout the year. Due dates can range from being finished for the following class up to three weeks for larger assignments. For smaller assignments, the expectation is that it will be completed at home. These assignments can either be a written piece that is handed in or a short presentation. For larger assignments (which tend to be your final task project for the unit), there will always be class time given the day it is assigned, as well as at least one full period the following class. Larger assignments will always be a presentation as well as a written piece that needs to be handed in (with some exceptions). Criteria will be given, and we will take the time in class to go over it. It is important to make notes on your criteria sheet so that you will know exactly what needs to get done.

For all levels, there are no late marks given to assignments due to the use of the Proficiency scale. However, repeated lateness for assignments does affect your work habits. As high school is an excellent opportunity to build good work habits for college, technical school or university, this is something that you do not want to become a pattern.

Quizes/Tests

Quizes and tests will be given throughout the year, and will always contain one or more of the following: a listening section, a writing section and/or a dication. You will be informed of a quiz date at least a week in advance, and test dates at least two or three weeks in advance. Quizes are shorter, and usually take up half the period or less. Tests will always take the full period. In both cases, an outline will be given to indicate what you will be evaluated on and what kinds of questions to expect.

Participation

Participating in class is one of the best ways to practice the language. I give check marks on your seating plan each time you participate when we are doing corrections for homework, when we are practicing new concepts, or when we are doing class discussions. You receive a check simply by putting up your hand in class; this is an indication to me that you can attempt the answer if you are picked or not. Pronunciation does not have to be perfect, but I will correct you if needs be. Use these corrections to improve your pronunciation!
