Homework for Mar 13-we corrected CA33, Part A
-a handout was provided to students and we learned about reflexive verbs (most of the list are verbs of morning/evening routine) -we watched a short clip from Mr Bean and students had to use the routine verbs list to help describe what Mr Bean was doing; we went over the list of actions after -enjoy the break! Homework for Mar 12-we completed a listening activity on CA33 to practice recognizing negative sentences and corrected it
-above the listening activity, we completed Part A CA33 to practice writing negative sentences; we will correct the activity next day -Mme Zakus gave a quiz outline (see above); the date has been added to the calendar Homework for Mar 11-students were given slips of paper to request preferences/dislikes for a new seating plan
-a reminder to hand in your Disparu! assignment ASAP if you have not done so -we did ER verb dominoes (similar to what we did with time); students handed in their sheet regardless of if it was complete or not -we learned about changing positive sentences to negative with the use of <<ne...pas>> through a handout and additional notes provided on the board to add to the handout -students worked on the questions on the opposite side of the handout; please complete it for homework if you did not finish in class Homework for Mar 10-time was given to complete CA32, then we corrected it
-we did a dice activity along with the -ER verbs cards from Quizlet; students had to roll a die, then conjugate the verb according to the code given (1 = je, 2 = tu, 3 =il/elle/on, etc) and these were written down on a sheet of paper -after the activity, Mme Zakus went around to collect the dice and verify student sentences; I also talked about how this can be used to help study for a quiz and reminded students to join our class on Quizlet Homework for Mar 9-we did dictionary words
-we learned about regular -ER verbs through a PowerPoint presentation (the notes can be downloaded from the Downloads & Assignment Info page); a handout of the notes was provided after -students practiced conjugating (changing) the verbs as we went through the practice section using whiteboards -please complete CA32 for homework -a reminder that Disparu! is due tomorrow; you need the rubric, your draft, and your project (no staple is needed) Homework for Mar 6-we finished our guided reading of the emails on CA26-28; you are welcome to transfer the information from the emails to the thought maps on CA29-30 (this is optional)
-using CA48, we learned about punctuation, then completed CA31; we corrected it after -the remaining time was left for students to continue working on their Disparu! project; a reminder that you need to hand in a stamped draft with your project Homework for Mar 5-we had a reminder conversation about the general expectations for this class, as it has not been pleasant for the past few classes
-we learned about question words through CA29 (it is an optional organizer that can be used to transfer info from the emails on CA25-28) -we completed the prediction activity on CA24; students confirmed their predictions by looking through the emails on CA25-28 -using one color to represent <<les mots amis>> (words that look/sound like English words and have the same meaning) and another color to represent <<les mots deja connus>> (words you already know), students scanned through the emails and highlighted/underlined words according to the two categories -we did a guided reading of the first email; if you did not finish highlighting all the emails, please ensure this is done for next day (you are also welcome to look up and define any words that you did not highlight) -a reminder that tomorrow (Friday) is the last day before the weekend to get corrections AND get your stamp from Mme Zakus for the draft of your Disparu! sentences (it is part of your mark!) Homework for Mar 4-today was a work period for the Disparu! assignment; your last opportunity to work on it in class will be Friday and it is also the ideal last day to get corrections (as Monday is the day before it is due)
Homework for Mar 3-the quiz was today; if you missed it, please come to TSS tomorrow (Wednesday March 4th) if able
-the remainder of the time was left for students to continue working on their Disparu! assignment; a reminder that you need to have a draft that has been stamped by me to hand in with your good copy Homework for Mar 2-students were given a handout with descriptions, which they had to match to different images around the room; afterwards, students worked through the descriptions to identify verbs, body parts & adjectives
-the rubric for the Disparu! project was given and we went over it; the remaining time was left to work on it (you will also have time after the quiz, TSS on Wednesday, class on Wednesday, and part of Friday's class) and the due date has been added to the calendar -be ready for the quiz tomorrow! Homework for Feb 26-we finished up the additional notes for BAGS adjectives that we started the other day
-your business cards were returned to you; if you still have not handed in your business card or have done the task, please speak to Mme Zakus ASAP -we did our dictionary word for the day -we had a game where an image of monsters were projected and Mme described a monster in French; students had to guess which monster was being described -we discussed key words to listen for with the images on CA18, then completed and corrected the listening activity -we then watched a video clip to confirm predictions in regards to M. LeBlanc's appearance -a handout of notes was distributed for the irregular verb <<avoir>> and we went over them -a reminder to prepare for your quiz next week Homework for Feb 25-as an intro activity, I showed a PowerPoint with images to have students go to different sides of the room depending on the adjective used
-magnetic cards were given to each student and everyone had to find their color family, then figure out how the adjectives change (if there were changes); once each group had claimed a section on the board, we discussed the adjective groups as a class -we compared our findings on the board to the chart on CA49; students were encouraged to highlight or underline the changes that occur as your move from masculine to feminine to plural -we added notes about BAGS (Beauty, Age, Goodness, Size) adjectives and Mme showed examples from the magnetic cards that fit into each category (we will add one more thing to these notes next day) Homework for Feb 24-using my stuffed Yoshi, I provided a description to the class; volunteers shared the info that they remembered from my description (which served as an introduction to colors and body parts)
-we added notes for color on CA17 and talked about some of the changes that occur -we added <<les cheveux>> (hair), <<l'oeil>> (single eye), <<le dos>> (back) and <<le menton>> (chin) to the body on CA51 then went over all the parts -we played a game of <<Mme Zakus Dit>> (Mme Zakus Says) to practice the vocab for the body parts -we played a couple of rounds of Quizlet -please start preparing for your quiz; the info is at the top of the page Homework for Feb 23-we did our dictionary words and corrected them
-we played a couple rounds of Quizlet with the "Time" cards; start practicing with them as it is something that will be on a future quiz -we completed the listening activity on CA15; we corrected it afterwards -a handout of notes was given for the verb etre and we went over them Homework for Feb 20-using whiteboards, we went over the time worksheet as a class; the opposite side of the sheet can be used as additional practice (but it is not required that you finish it)
-we completed a prediction activity on CA11, then did a listening activity to confirm our predictions -students worked on CA14, then we corrected it -a reminder to please hand in your business card if you have not done so; if you need to do the dialog or the quiz, please make arrangements with Mme Zakus to do it after school or during TSS Homework for Feb 19-we corrected the last page of the gender booklet
-we went over the five possible solutions for the mystery of M. LeBlanc's disappearance; you will later do a presentation for the solution you have chosen and the evidence to support it -we did a time dominoes activity, where students had to write down times from cards around the room; it was collected afterwards -a handout was given for further practice on time; the remainder of the time was left to start it (only complete the large clock side) Homework for Feb 18-the business cards & rubrics were collected today; for those that have not done the task, please make arrangements with Mme Zakus (if you forgot your card, please hand it in ASAP)

-we went over the quiz outline (found just above the Homework) as well as Quizlet; please make sure to sign up and join for free (please ensure your user name is your first initial and your last name or your first name and your initial for your last name), then search for "MmeAZakus" to join the French 8 class and get full access to all the study features (if you join tonight, you will get a little gift for joining) -we did an activity where students had to match the images of classroom objects to the terms provided on a handout; we used a PowerPoint to correct the activity -the remainder of the time was left to complete CA2 Homework for Feb 6-we corrected the holidays sheet
-the rubric for the business card task was distributed and we went over it; Mme Zakus showed the class a way to create several business cards using PowerPoint and also showed sample business cards -we practiced the dialog in full, again modelling what the task will look like -the new workbooks were distributed; we looked over some of the features, then completed CA1 (page one of the workbook) Homework for Feb 5-students looked up the words in French for "cardboard box"; a volunteer gave the answer and we went over other ways it could be modified
-we finished the notes for days of the week & months of the year; a handout was given on different holidays and celebrations and we spent some time completing it (the rest is to be done at home) -we learned the last bits of the business card dialog, then practiced the dialog in full with a partner; we modelled what will happen the day of the task -the date for the business card task was given (check the calendar on the homepage); remember, you need to have 7 copies of your business card Homework for Feb 4-Mme Zakus provided a sentence in English on the board and underlined words for students to look up and translate into French; we went over them together
-we learned about numbers through a reference sheet; please check with a classmate for the additional notes and highlights that we did -we practiced exchanging our phone numbers with the business card dialog -we took notes on the months of the year and the days of the week; we will finish them next day Homework for Feb 3-we continued working through the final dictionary exercise and corrected all the entries
-we had a brief discussion about which entries were more effective in finding the words needed; if you are seriously considering getting your own dictionary, it is recommended that you look up the words from the last dictionary exercise to help you decide if it is a good one or not -we learned about the French-English dictionaries that we have in the classroom and practiced using them by looking up "is", "saw", and "fun"; we discussed the entries we found and what they meant Homework for Feb 2-we played <<Qui suis-je?>>, then completed a self evaluation on our sheet before handing it in
-we corrected the nasal sounds -we completed and corrected the labels for the French sentences -we completed some of the entries for the final dictionary exercise (we will continue next day) Homework for Jan 30-we played <<Qui suis-je?>> again and added to the sheet that we had started; we will play a final round next class and it will be collected
-we corrected our sounds homework, then learned about nasals, semi-vowels, semi-consonants & glides; only the nasals were assigned for homework -we corrected the labels for the English sentences, then transitioned into French sentences; some of the English sentences were translated into French and we looked at similarities and differences of sentence structure and placement of words -for homework (in addition to the nasal sounds), please label the French sentences (nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs) as best as you can; the point is NOT to know what the words mean, but rather take guesses based on what we learned about sentence structure and word placement Homework for Jan 29-a pink reference sheet was provided with alternative responses to <<Comment ca va?>>
-we played a a second round of <<Qui suis-je?>>; a reminder that this will eventually be collected as a completion piece -we corrected the sounds homework, then learned the next four vowel sounds; please underline the letters in the words that create each sound for homework -we discussed nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs in preparation for learning how to use a dictionary -a handout was given where students had to identify the different parts of sentences in English; if not finished in class, please finish at home Homework for Jan 28-we did the dialogue spelling our full name; please continue to practice the dialogue as it will take us a few lessons before we can work on the remainder; you are welcome to start work on good copies of your business card, just remember that the birthday cannot be finalized until we learn about dates and months in French
-we played a game called <<Qui suis-je?>>, where I spelt names in French for students to write down; this sheet will eventually be collected (this is also a good way to practice your letters as well) -we went over the sounds that we learned yesterday, then learned the next four vowel sounds; if you did not already finish in class, please underline the letters in the words that create each sound for homework Homework for Jan 27-we went over the outline for the class
-we learned the alphabet in French, then used it, along with the business card dialog, to spell our name for three partners -for homework, please practice spelling your name in full along with the dialogue -we learned about French sounds, and I provided examples on the board that demonstrate the various sounds -we learned about the first three vowel sounds and identified the letters creating the sounds on our handout; please complete this for homework if you did not get it done in class Homework for Jan 26-we opened with a quick survey of student preferences using images in a PowerPoint; we then talked about our experiences in French and student volunteers asked me questions
-we looked at the class website -we created a draft of our business card (which will eventually be used for a project) Homework for Dec 19-we continued with presentations, if any (those that still need to do them, please be ready to do them in the New Year)

Homework for Dec 2-today was a practice period for the interviews; Mme Zakus randomly called students up to do the interview for her and those students received feedback

-as a class, we brainstormed new questions for CA19 (we replaced four questions and added two new questions) and the format for the answers were provided as well; please check with your classmates for the new questions (Mme will also provide pictures of the boards for each class next week) -we went over the criteria for your interview task; the dates have been added to the calendar -please start preparing your responses for the questions at home; you will have time next class to work on them and get corrections Homework for Nov 27-we corrected CA16

-we watched a music video and students shared what activities they saw in the video; we also discussed the theme of the video -using L10-11, we looked at more activities and listened to a song; we identified which activities were featured in the song as well as in the livre (we also discussed which activities were in the song, but not in the livre) -we made observations about the verbs that were used to talk about the activities -I showed a PowerPoint on the verb faire, and the concepts of faire de, jouer a and jouer de; it can be downloaded from the Downloads & Assignment info page (students were provided with handouts of the slides after) -time was given to start CA16; if it was not finished in class, please ensure it is finished for next day Homework for Nov 25-a handout of notes were given on aimer + infinitif and we went over them

-we completed and corrected CA4 & CA6 -we read the piece on JK Rowling and Mme provided a quick lesson on some of the names with French origins from the Harry Potter series (if interested to see more, this website is quite extensive Homework for Nov 20-we continued to work through the personality test on L6-9; we went through and discussed the meanings of the sentences for the remaining personality types
-students took the personality test (we will wrap this up next class) Homework for Nov 19 (P4 only)-we brainstormed ideas on the board to help create simple <<oui>>/<<non>> questions
-students worked either on their own or in pairs to create a questionnaire based on a theme (could be one of the personality types or other quality) -students conducted their surveys and noted the responses -all work was collected for completion marks Homework for Nov 18-we reviewed adjectives using the list on the survey as well as word examples on the board; an emphasis was put on doing the correct agreement with gender and/or number
-we completed and corrected CA5 -we brainstormed different activities that we enjoy doing -students spent time going over the first two personalities on L6 and writing notes for each statement (this will hopefully make things easier when we take the personality test later) Homework for Nov 17-we completed and corrected the listening activity on CA2
-we completed and corrected CA3 -a handout was given where students are to choose the five qualities that are most important to them when it comes to their friends -students were able to survey their classmates to find what are the most important qualities for the class -to prepare for our discussion next class, please use highlighters and/or different colored pens to classify the qualities on the friendship survey according to their endings Homework for Nov 14-we concluded the M LeBlanc presentations
-to introduce the new unit, we looked over an image in the livre and discussed what we saw as well as how the activities can create a mosaic of each person -your new cahier (white booklet) and Lexique (blue booklet) were distributed; please see me for yours if you were away -we completed CA1; we discussed the descriptions and corrected the activity Homework for Nov 13-today was the presentations for the solution of the mystery of M LeBlanc; any remaining presentations will be completed next class
Homework for Nov 7, 10 & 12-today was a work period for your M LeBlanc presentations; students must submit their work at the end of each class (Mme is keeping a record of each time that you have submitted work)
-on Wednesday Nov 12, you will be able to take your script home to properly prepare for your presentation the next day Homework for Nov 6-the comic strip was due today; please hand yours in ASAP if you were away or did not hand it in

Homework for Nov 3-a self-evaluation was distributed to students to fill in; please see me for yours if you were away

Students were instructed to watch the video carefully and record at least three things Chulo does as part of his morning routine (transitioning from Je to Il). Finally, students wrote their own morning routines using a combination of reflexive and non-reflexive verbs, along with the chronological linking words D'abord, ensuite, puis, and enfin. The relevance of this to the upcoming unit project was briefly mentioned.

-be ready for your quiz next day! Homework for Dec 7-today was a work period for your latest project; students were able to get corrections as they worked
-I did a check in with students who still have missing assignments; if they are not taken care of soon, you may receive an invitation to come to Flex Homework for Dec 6-the interview summaries were returned; please hand yours in ASAP if you have not done so
-we corrected CA29-31, as well as CA33; see me for the corrections if you were away -Mme did a sample presentation for the class to serve as a model for your project; the rubric was distributed and we went over it and the due date/presentation date has been added to the calendar -the remaining time was left for students to work on the project Homework for Dec 5-we corrected the remaining exercises in the study guide; please see Mme if you have any questions or need the answers (the writing sections in your quiz will be the same thing, but with different sentences)

-a study guide was provided for your quiz next week; we completed the sentence exercises with aimer + infinitif and corrected some -please ensure that the remainder of the study guide is ready for next day Homework for Dec 1-the interview summaries were due; please hand yours in ASAP if you did not hand it in
-we read about Jennifer Hollett on L13, and discussed the info; we then looked at her website to see what she is currently doing -P3: we looked over the websites on L14-15 and discussed the info each student revealed; we also discussed what info to not reveal on a personal website -P4: I showed the "About Me" section of my website and we discussed what kinds of information is there -please complete CA13 (first page of the second booklet) for next day; Part A provides your word list for Part B (it is not necessary to complete the word search) Homework for Nov 30-we concluded the remaining interviews
-the rest of the period was left for students to work on their interview summary and get corrections; if finished before the end of the period, students were able to hand in their assignment early (otherwise, have it ready to hand in next class) Homework for Nov 29-we continued with the interviews; there are still a couple more in each class that need to be complete next day
-I went over the criteria for the summary; you are welcome to wait until tomorrow to write it in class or you can work on it at home and get corrections next day Homework for Nov 28-the interview task began today; we will hopefully conclude them next class

-Mme Zakus verified that each person had their questions on one sheet and their answers on another sheet (they must be separate in order for me to credit you as not referring to your notes when responding to questions) -some students were able to have a practice session with Mme; everyone else practiced -be ready for the interview task next day! |
Suggested binder organizationHaving your binder organized into different sections will make it easier for you to quickly locate different handouts or notes from class. Here is a suggestion for this class:
-Cahier: have one section specifically for your workbooks which you will receive over the year -Notes: this will be for any notes that I give you in class on the whiteboard or the overhead projector -PowerPoints: I will be giving you a few PPTs over the year, and you can keep them all together here -Handouts: For any and all handouts you receive in class. -Assignments: For smaller projects/assignments that I return to you and for assignments that need to be handed in |
