We then looked over the conversations on L6-7, and made observations. We listened to the track to hear each conversation. We then did pair work by using the new dialogues. We then looked at the Nota on L9 in regards to informal and formal introductions.
We did an activity where I provided each student with a name tag, some having the title of Senor (Sr) or Senora (Sra). Students practised greeting each other and introducing each other, making sure to use the correct informal or formal forms. We completed and corrected a listening activity where students had to figure out whether the greetings were informal or formal. Using the whiteboards, we completed Actividad 4 on L8. We then looked at the Comparacion Cultural on L9 and I showed the class additional images of the mural as well as Manny Vega's work. We ended class by creating mini skits, which incorporated the new vocabulary we had learned. Groups were selected at random to present. Homework for Sept 6A Greetings handout was distributed, which provided additional examples for ways to greet people. We went over some of the examples which we not already provided in the book. We also looked at the Nota on L5 (familiar vs formal) and the pronunciation of the letter H.
We read a cultural piece on El dia de independencia on C4-C5. We discussed the piece afterwards. We did a quick speaking activity to help practice using Me llamo (My name is..), but with Spanish names (as provided on L4). Using whiteboards, we did the matching activity (Leer) as a class. We then ended class with the Hablar activity (but did it as a writing activity), and went over the answers afterwards. Homework for Sept 5The textbooks were issued and we filled out the book cards. Please see me for a textbook if you were away. As this is where the majority of our material comes from, it is vital that you bring it every day.
We briefly looked over the intro to Nueva York, and looked at images and video of Hispanic Day last October. We discussed what elements stood out from the parade, as well as what cultural celebrations we have in the Lower Mainland. We then learned about greetings through L2-3. We made observations on the various conversations, then listened to the conversations. Working in pairs, we practised all the mini dialogues found on the pages. We also did a quick listening activity to choose the correct greeting to use in the morning, afternoon or evening. Homework for June 12The Mi familia presentations were today.
