Here you will find a summary of what we did in class, as well as any homework or assignments/projects that were given. The most recent class will be found at the top of the page, and previous classes will be found at the bottom.

Homework for Jan 16

-the final project was due today; please submit yours ASAP if you did not have it complete
-self evaluation forms were distributed to students to fill out; I called students up one at a time and we discussed your final mark
-a reminder to bring food to share for our breakfast tomorrow, come hungry! (Mme will be bringing croissants, brioche loaves, jam and plates; you are welcome to bring fruit that is already cut up to share, muffins or pastries)

-I asked the class questions to help learn some of the vocab on L140-141

-for next class, you will need to write a description of a car and I will randomly select descriptions to read to the class so that they can draw it (similar to what we did for the monster description); please ensure to include the following with your description

-we learned about reciprocal reflexives, as explained on L136
-though Mme understands the need to talk about reciprocity with reflexives, most verbs can be made reciprocal by using me, te, se, nous ou vous with any verb (in other words, there is no need to called a certain group of reflexive verbs reciprocal)
-we completed Ex4, L137 and students shared their sentences
-students worked on Ex6, L137 (On se quitte) for the remainder of the period; it will be collected next day

Homework for Nov 21

-I talked about the Belgian artist Monique Martin and showed a few of her paintings from a website
-I explained that she eventually became an author well known for the children's series "Ernest et Celestine"; she wrote under the nom de plume Gabrielle Vincent (her grandparents names)
-I read the story "Ernest et Celestine ont perdu Simeon" (English version) to the class, and also showed images from a couple of her other stories
-we will be watching the movie "Ernest et Celestine" next day, and I distributed a worksheet to complete for the movie (which will be handed in); you will also be writing a paragraph on Monday, so it is recommended that you take notes while watching the movie, as you will need to provide examples from the movie for your paragraph
-the remaining time was left for students to continue working on their presentation

-we reviewed the different expresions that we use with avoir (ie J'ai 16 ans, J'ai chaud/froid/, J'ai faim/soif, etc) as well as expressions with faire (Il fait beau); students were reminded that these can also be idiomatic expresssions because they don't literally translate (<<J'ai 16 ans>> means "I am 16 years old")
-we went over the idiomatic reflexives on L100-101 and completed and corrected Ex1

-I spoke a little about Alsace & Lorraince using the info on L46-47; I showed a website featuring Gustave Dore's work (Julien Dore is distantly related to him, you can view the website here), a portrait of Joan of Arc from the Louvre, a picture that I took of the small scale version of the Statue of Liberty in Paris and a picture of The Cheater by Georges de la Tour (found in the Louvre)
-a worksheet was given to students to work on; if not handed in by the end of the period, it will be collected next day

-I referred the class to L26-27, which gives some of the same information that we had gone over with our review of passe compose and imparfait
-I put a verb timeline on the board to give a visual way to think about our different verb tenses (particularly for passe compose and imparfait)
-to help with listening and comprehension, we will be reading chapters from <<Valentine Picotee>>; students are to identify verbs using passe compose or imparfait
-as a bonus assignment, students can draw an image or several images to represent what happens in the chapter (they will be collected all together once we finish the book)
-a handout was given for homework to practice passe compose & imparfait in writing (Act 3 is optional)

-we watched the Flash culture video a couple more times, then corrected the Flash culture worksheet
-I showed the class a few pictures from mine and my husband's trip to Paris in 2013 to showcase the buildings that one sees in Paris

-we opened with L17 and did the <<Pour commencer>> questions to begin the unit
-students familiarised themselves with the vocab on L18-19, then we did questions in French to help use the new vocabulary
-we completed Ex1 & Ex3 on L19, but only corrected Ex1 (make sure that Ex3 is done for next time)
-a handout was given for more practice with the new vocab; make sure to have your textbook with you and use L18-19 to complete all the exercises in the handout

-using the document provided at the end of the criteria for Musique mercredi (right side of this page), I went over how to express your opinion for both the song and video each week; the full lyrics for this week's song were provided and we listened to the song
-time was given to complete Ex3, L14 and we went over the answers on the board
-we reviewed lui/leur,then completed and corrected Ex4, L15
-we reviewed the imperative (command form) and looked at the irregulars for avoir & etre on L15 as well as placement with direct & indirect objects

-we completed and corrected Ex4, L11
-for homework, students will write statements with the imparfait using the starter <<Quand j'etais jeune...>> to help practice writing statements of "I used to..."; try to do at least five sentences and use different verbs for each (you are welcome to do more)
-be prepared to possibly share your sentences next class as well as hand them in for completion marks

-the remainder of the time was for students to do a in-class writing activity; the topic is <<Une mauvaise journee>> (A bad day) and you had to ensure to use a variety of verbs in past tense
-the paragraphs will be handed in Monday

-the textbooks were issued and we filled out the textbook cards; I advised putting Post-it flags for the reference pages at the back of your textbook
-we reviewed regular verbs and their endings as well as some of our most used irregulars (etre, avoir, faire, aller), then completed and corrected Ex1 on L4
-to end off the class, students worked on creating a simple story using a list of verbs provided on the board; we will continue working on them for a few more minutes next day

-students were given progress reports as well as the project marks (projects were only returned to those who had completed their written pieces)

-next Wednesday June 22nd is a four period day with time during Period 2 to return locks/clean lockers; class will be used as catch up for those that are still missing assignments
