-in small groups, students tried to brainstorm a variety of verbs and I slowly added categories to consider (regular vs irregular, verb groups); we discussed the verbs in general afterwards
-a PowerPoint was shown to help review regular and irregular verbs; the notes were distributed afterwards along with a list of regular verbs for each verb group

-we reviewed numbers in French, then played a game of BINGO; prizes were awarded to those who had a line or four numbers in a row (to continue practicing numbers, use the number card set on Quizlet; you'll need to join the French 9 class)

-your music video worksheets were returned; if you were away, please get the handout from Mme Zakus and complete the activity at home (the videos are now posted above the Musique mercredi videos)
-your self-evaluations were distributed to fill out for the end of the semester; please see Mme for yours if you were away to fill it out
-the rubric for the Francophone artists project was distributed and we went over it; students were called up at random to sign up for their artist
-the remainder of the time was left for students to begin work on their project; you will also have Monday to work (best to have your piece ready to be corrected by Mme for then) and the presentations are on Tuesday

-we continued with film/TV questions; during questions, students were invited to watch one of the following: "Stayin' Alive" by the BeeGees, "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder or "Miss You" by The Rolling Stones and answer the question "Is there dancing?"
-your story projects were due; please hand yours in ASAP if you were away or did not hand it in (a reminder to hand in the most recent draft that I corrected of your story with your good copy)
-we looked at different music videos to show the influence they had on dance and briefly discussed each one after watching; we watched "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder, "Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Buggles (the first video shown on MTV), then the long version of Michael Jackson's "Thriller"

-we continued with the film/TV questions; please continue to practice if you have not been chosen
-we corrected CA25-26; please see me for the corrections if you were away
-we watched the Evolution of Dance video, then discussed the dances we recognized (click here for Evolution of Dance 2 and here for Evolution of Dance 3)
-we transitioned to the program and watched a video clip featuring more dances while completing CA27; we corrected it afterwards

-the test was today; please make arrangements with Mme Zakus ASAP to write it during Flex if you were away
-film & TV questions will resume next class; it is looking likely that Thursday will be used to call up whoever still has not gone after tomorrow and Wednesday

-using CA24, we completed a listening activity; L93-94 was used to correct it and we briefly discussed which artists we liked
-I showed the class record albums that belonged to my mom (and one that belonged to me); I talked about the changes that occurred in the way the albums presented the artists, as well as made observations in the style of the various albums
-we ended class with the Pentatonix video for Evolution of Music
-please complete CA25-26 for Tuesday, as next class is your test

-we did Musique mardi and listened to Antsa & Mendrika; students were randomly selected to share their opinions and we also had volunteers
-we discussed cars and the roles they play for our family; I showed a picture of a 1988 Volkswagon Westfalia and I talked the trips and memories that I have of it
-using L88-91, students read about stories and memories associated with cars and filled in the chart on CA19; students were asked to fill in the Chevrolet & Peugeot first, then move on to the others (we will correct these next day before the in-class write)
-next class, you will be doing another in-class writing piece about a road trip (real or imagined); as before, you can prepare a sheet of vocab (verbs and other words you need) to help speed up the writing in class (if you come to class with sentences in French or a full piece written in English, they will be taken away from you!)

-today was the final work period for your story; you are welcome to see Mme Zakus during Flex to get corrections (remember, you must hand in a stamped draft with your completed project as proof of getting corrections from Madame)

-students were given time to write sentences in the past tense; I randomly selected students to read their sentences (please hang on to your sentences as I didn't manage to look over them in class today)
-we brainstormed questions for our new Daily Questions topic, film & TV; as before, the full list will be provided tomorrow
-a rubric was given for your newest project, a story book or a comic book; the due date has been added to the calendar and you will have tomorrow, Friday, and Monday as work periods

Homework for Dec 3

-we have concluded the sports presentations; your marks will soon be returned
-we completed and corrected CA11
-we did a quick review of past tense with avoir, then learned about past tense with etre through another PowerPoint; the handout of notes as well as a "Coles notes" of avoir & etre with past tense were provided
-for next day, please create as many sentences as you in the past tense by talking about things that have happened in the past week or month

-I showed a PowerPoint on clothing; we looked at more outfits on L82-85 and talked about the verbs used (porter and avoir) as well as a quick review on adjectives and BAGS
-students had to select an outfit to write a description on and showed it to me for completion marks; if you did not manage to show me your description by the end of class, please show me next day

-we looked at Expo 67 (and pictures of tiny Mme Zakus at Expo 86 in Vancouver) and the cellphone (Mme showed her flip phone from when she graduated high school) on CA6; if you'd like to check the rest of the page with Mme Zakus, please see me
-we learned about past tense composed with avoir through a PowerPoint and did some practice with papers; the handout of notes was provided afterwards (please ignore the two slides that talk about a quiz)
-for tomorrow's in-class writing piece, please find an article that you would like to summarize and either print it out to bring to class or email it to me
-on a separate piece of paper that will be handed in with your summary, please make notes on the article for the 5Qs (who, what, where, when, why) as well as any additional details you want to include, make a list of the verbs in French that you will use, and note any new vocab that you will need (if there are any sentences on your notes or you come to class with a completed summary, it will be taken away)
-you will not be allowed to use your phones while writing, but you can use the dictionaries, Bescherelles and any of the notes that you have already been given

-we previewed the video by completing CA2-3 as a prediction activity; we confirmed them by watching the video and corrected it

Homework for Oct 10

-we went over some new French proverbs, then went over the ones in our livre/cahier; we matched the English equivalents on the board to the ones in the livre/cahier and discussed each one briefly
-we discussed accents and how they can differ (Irish, British, Newfoundland, etc) and transitioned into accents in French
-using a sentence that I read to the class as a base, we discussed the three different accents presented on the CD; we then did a listening activity to identify each speaker
-please complete CA22-24 for next class (more important is CA23-24, so if you can't finish CA22, no worries) and please also bring an object that is either representative of Canada or of your own culture (suggestions are money, stamps, postcards, jewelry, stuffed animals, etc)

-we did Musique mercredi with Soprano as the featured artist; we had a brief discussion of what is precious to us, then looked at the lyrics of the song to discover what the precious item is
-students were selected at random to share their opinion; volunteers shared their opinions as well (a reminder to keep all your sentences in one place as they will eventually be collected)
-we concluded market dialog presentations
-we discussed proverbs and Mme showed several proverbs that have similar meanings as well as a French proverb that shared meaning with two of the English ones shown
-we completed and corrected CA17
-students completed CA18-19, then used L18-19 to correct the activity; to prepare for our discussion next day, please try to find English proverbs that have the same meanings as the French ones (there are four that will have English counterparts)

-in our question making groups for the game, we created questions for the markets section (L12-15) using the question types (est-ce que, intonation & inversion)

-a handout was given to review adjectives; we went over the patterns on the sheet as you go from masculine to feminine; the other side of the handout has a list of common BAGS adjectives
-to review adjective placement, we watched a video in French from the Canadian improv group Improteine; a handout was provided that summarized the main points of the video in English with French examples

Suggested binder organization

Having your binder organized into different sections will make it easier for you to quickly locate different handouts or notes from class. Here is a suggestion for this class:

-Cahier: have one section specifically for your workbooks which you will receive over the year
-Notes: this will be for any notes that I give you in class on the whiteboard or the overhead projector
-PowerPoints: I will be giving you a few PPTs over the year, and you can keep them all together here
-Handouts: For any and all handouts you receive in class.
-Assignments: For smaller projects/assignments that I return to you and for assignments that need to be handed in
