Homework for Oct 30-a new project was assigned where you will create a collage for a sport of your choice (for suggested sentences starters, take a look at CA17); you can get the criteria here
-we corrected CA12-13; please see me for the corrections if you were away -we reviewed avoir + besoin de, then completed and corrected CA15 -we went through our regular verb lists and highlighted/underlined/starred any verbs that one can use to talk about sports; I also provided a list of ER verbs on the board for students to note down (a good place to add them to is along the margin of the -ER verbs list) -we completed CA16, then did the accompanying listening activity -we learned about lacrosse through the reading on L34 (for additional info, you can watch this video from YouTube) -we looked over the verbs and how they were being used on L36-38, then learned about the imperative on L170 -Mme Zakus did a demo presentation for <<Comment Faire>>; we went over the rubric and the little bit of time remaining was left for students to begin (you will get the full period on Friday to work; it is recommended to come to class with your completed script and you can get corrections) Homework for Oct 29-we corrected CA5-6

-we brainstormed sports and I put them into hidden categories on the board; we revealed the categories after -we started the new unit and the latest workbooks and reference booklets were distributed; please see me for yours if you were away -we previewed the video by completing CA2-3 as a prediction activity; we confirmed them by watching the video and corrected it -for the remainder of the time, students worked on defining the sports terms on CA1 as well as <<la lutte>> and <<la voile>> on CA4; it is optional to complete the wordsearch as well as the category checklist Homework for Oct 23-we concluded the Francophonie games

-we spoke briefly about CA22 (optional) and corrected CA23-24; we discussed what is revealed about culture through the stamps on CA24 -in small groups, students discussed the objects they brought and we did a general discussion about Canadian money afterwards; I also showed the class a used transit ticket for the transit systems in Paris -students worked with their question making groups to create questions for the proverbs and accents section -students completed CA26A (we will conclude this activity next day) -students were encouraged to get started on CA27-30 Homework for Oct 15-the test was today; please make arrangements with me ASAP if you were away to make it up

Homework for Oct 10-we went over some new French proverbs, then went over the ones in our livre/cahier; we matched the English equivalents on the board to the ones in the livre/cahier and discussed each one briefly
-we discussed accents and how they can differ (Irish, British, Newfoundland, etc) and transitioned into accents in French -using a sentence that I read to the class as a base, we discussed the three different accents presented on the CD; we then did a listening activity to identify each speaker -please complete CA22-24 for next class (more important is CA23-24, so if you can't finish CA22, no worries) and please also bring an object that is either representative of Canada or of your own culture (suggestions are money, stamps, postcards, jewelry, stuffed animals, etc) Homework for Oct 9-we did Musique mercredi with Soprano as the featured artist; we had a brief discussion of what is precious to us, then looked at the lyrics of the song to discover what the precious item is
-students were selected at random to share their opinion; volunteers shared their opinions as well (a reminder to keep all your sentences in one place as they will eventually be collected) -we concluded market dialog presentations -we discussed proverbs and Mme showed several proverbs that have similar meanings as well as a French proverb that shared meaning with two of the English ones shown -we completed and corrected CA17 -students completed CA18-19, then used L18-19 to correct the activity; to prepare for our discussion next day, please try to find English proverbs that have the same meanings as the French ones (there are four that will have English counterparts) Homework for Oct 8-the poems were due today; please hand yours in ASAP if you were away or did not have it complete (a reminder to those who still have not handed in their Pays Franco to please do so!)

-we completed and corrected CA12 -we completed and corrected CA16 -a new assignment was given where you will create a poem on a Francophone celebrity; the format is on CA13 and a sample poem is on L17 (it is STRONGLY recommended that you check in with your chosen celebrity AND show your poem to Mme Zakus before handing it in); please check the calendar for the due date Homework for Sept 27-in our question making groups for the game, we created questions for the markets section (L12-15) using the question types (est-ce que, intonation & inversion)
-we completed the quiz on CA11, then learned about more celebrities on L16-17 -for more information on Max Gros-Louis, please see this article -a handout was given to review adjectives; we went over the patterns on the sheet as you go from masculine to feminine; the other side of the handout has a list of common BAGS adjectives -to review adjective placement, we watched a video in French from the Canadian improv group Improteine; a handout was provided that summarized the main points of the video in English with French examples -please complete CA12 for next day (or you can wait until Tuesday where we will take time to complete it in class) Homework for Sept 25-a reminder to please hand in your Francophone country assignment if you have not done so

-we corrected CA6-9; we also discussed the dialogs on CA9 -a handout was given where students are to create questions for the answers provided (like the more complex examples at the end of the PowerPoint notes); we corrected 2 & 3 and will correct the remainder next day -for those that want more practice, you can download another sheet from the Downloads & Assignment info page (Forming Qs handout version 2) or you can wait until next class to get a paper copy Homework for Sept 23-we discussed what dishes are Canadian, then talked about where our families go shopping; we transitioned into talking about open air markets (our closest examples being the farmer's markets or the Granville Island Public Market)

-we looked at different music videos to show the influence they had on dance and briefly discussed each; we watched "Stayin Alive" by the Bee Gees, "Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Buggles (the first video shown on MTV), then the long version of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" -be ready for your test next day! -we continued with the film/TV questions; please continue to practice if you have not been chosen -we completed and corrected CA25; please see me for the corrections if you were away -we watched the Evolution of Dance video, then discussed the dances we recognized (click here for Evolution of Dance 2 and here for Evolution of Dance 3) -we transitioned to the program and watched a video clip featuring more dances while completing CA27 -for tomorrow, please watch the music videos (Superstion by Stevie Wonder, Stayin' Alive by The Bee Gees and Miss you by The Rolling Stones) in preparation for our lesson on music videos and their influence on dance; the only question you need to think about is "Do you see any dancing?" -using CA24, we completed a listening activity; L93-94 was used to correct it and we briefly discussed which artists we liked -I showed the class record albums that belonged to my mom (and one that belonged to me) as well as a series of iconic album covers; we discussed the changes that occurred in the way the albums presented the artists, as well as observations in the style of the various albums -we ended class with the Pentatonix video for Evolution of Music Homework for May 21-we continued with film & TV Qs; please continue to practice if you have not been chosen

-for Musique mercredi, we listened to Laurent Voulzy, an artist that was very popular in the 70s; students were randomly selected to read their opinions and we also did volunteers (if you are interested in listening to a long version, it is below the video we watched this week) -we corrected CA11-12, please see me for the corrections if you were away -we briefly reviewed past tense with avoir, then launched into past tense with etre through another PowerPoint; notes were provided after along with a Coles notes chart of the similarities and differences between avoir & etre with past tense -a final sheet was given as practice; please ensure Exercises C & D are complete for next day (Exercise E is optional, but you are strongly encouraged to complete it for more practice) Homework for May 7-we went over the test; please see me for yours if you were away
-I showed the class a Prezi showcasing items of clothing; a handout of notes was provided afterwards -we briefly looked over the outfits on L82-85 and noted the verbs used (porter, avoir) as well as the use of adjectives and their placement (BAGS vs most adjectives) -students had to choose an outfit from several pictures put up around the room and describe it; these were handed in for a completion mark -please complete CA11-12 in your newest booklet that was distributed today Homework for May 6-we corrected CA7 & 9; see me for corrections if you need to

-we learned about past tense composed with avoir through a PowerPoint and did some practice with whiteboards; the handout of notes was provided afterwards (please ignore the two slides that talk about a quiz) -the remainder of the time was left for students to work on CA7 & 9 in the booklet (please make sure to highlight or underline the verb avoir on CA7 and circle both verbs for CA9) -for Monday's in-class writing piece, please find an article that you would like to summarize and either print it out to bring to class or email it to me -on a separate piece of paper that will be handed in with your summary, please make notes on the article for the 5Qs (who, what, where, when, why) as well as any additional details you want to include, make a list of the verbs in French that you will use, and note any new vocab that you will need -you will not be allowed to use your phones while writing, but you can use the dictionaries, Bescherelles and any of the notes that you have already been given Homework for May 2-we concluded sports demonstration presentations
